Name: Anthony "Tony" Edward Stark
Canon: Marvel Cinematic Universe
Canon Point: Avengers: Age of Ultron (Sokovia falling)
History:
MCU Wikia: Tony Stark
Personality:
Tony is a self-proclaimed "Genius, billionaire, playboy, philanthropist" but Tony Stark just isn't that simple. He's an eccentric genius, yes, and that is more than proven. He fancies himself a playboy and has the drunken conquests to prove it. In his young adult years, he started out as a partying free spirit, borderline alcoholic. "If I had been that drunk, I wouldn't have been able to stand, much less give a lecture on integrated circuits." Yinsen says to Tony when he comments that he doesn't remember him even though they had met before. Tony paid little regard to others around him, only interested in his next bedroom conquest, new invention, or next drink, living life as one big party. He cared little for how this made him appear to others, including the public opinion of him. As long as he enjoyed it, that was all that mattered.
His view of the world drastically changes when he's kidnapped by a terrorist cell, the Ten Rings. He realises his legacy is to be a killer, even if indirectly. The weapons he's designed were being sold to both sides and eventually used against him. He puts the party hard side of him behind him (mostly) and pursues a nobler standpoint on things, in his own way.
Tony is arrogant, egotistical, and overconfident. It's due in part because he is a genius and he tends to often be right. With that track record, he gets a little headstrong. He pretty much just says what comes to his mind without regard for other's feelings and he isn't afraid to tell the biggest guy in the room that they're wrong when they are. He's talkative and personable, charismatic to a degree. But because he's mouthy, extremely sarcastic, and overconfident, he tends to make more enemies than friends. This has toned down over the years as Iron Man and his time with Pepper, but he still has flare-ups once in a while that often push people to want to murder him. Yeah, there's a gradually increasing number of people that have had and acted on the urge to grab him by the throat when they've had enough.
On the other side of that, he does care about others, he just doesn't know how to show it. He's self-involved, but he will risk his life or even certain death for the sake of saving lives. He feels guilty over finding out his company was double dealing behind his back and that those weapons had been used to take so many lives. He wanted to atone even if he wasn't directly responsible. As much of a public figure as he is, it's probably hard to believe he isn't the best when it comes to dealing with people. He tries, but it's often a swing and a miss, like certain giant stuffed bunnies as Christmas presents for Pepper. Not a good idea. He has few friends and many enemies, but he has a number of allies that tolerate him at best. And that he fights to protect.
He has issues with authority and taking orders. Team work is also not one of his strongest points. Lately, he's gained some humility and has accepted (mostly) taking orders from Captain America, though they still clash like alpha male mountain goats from time to time. And he will definitely butt heads with anyone and everyone if he thinks he's right.
He also has moderate to severe daddy issues. Howard was hardly around when he was growing up, focused more on his work than his son. Like Tony, he didn't know how to express he cared, so he focused on making everything better for his son in the long run. The young Stark was mostly raised by their Butler, Edwin Jarvis. Part of his authority issues likely stem from this neglect. He grew up feeling as if Howard never truly loved him or even cared about him at all. "He was cold. He was calculating. He never told me he loved me--and never even told me he liked me." His parents both passedwere murdered when he was young, so there was never time for this relationship to be reconciled. "We're talking about a guy whose happiest day was when he shipped me off to boarding school."
Tony is highly impulsive and prone to making ludicrous decisions spur of the moment. The way his mind works through problems is interesting and gives little time to do more than act. He's used to relying only on himself and JARVIS. He doesn't immediately trust people to have his back and he has difficulty playing well with others. This all compiles into a very self-destructive nature. He acts without the consent of others and though his quick thinking does tend to work out in the end, it puts his teammates off a bit, earning him jabs from certain ones. He's also damn persistent. His determination is often the reason things work out his way in the end despite the odds. "The Avengers Initiative was scrapped, I thought. And I didn't even qualify. Apparently I'm volatile. Self-obsessed. Don't play well with others."
He is a billionaire, and he has no problem reminding people of this fact, but at the same time, he doesn't mind spending it on others. He allows Pepper to buy her own birthday present on him without even asking for a price tag. He donated his entire art collection when he was sure he was dying and he repaid Harley for his help, even going a step further to deck out the entire garage in tech and cool gadgets for the kid. He pays for everything related to the Avengers. "I just pay for everything, and design everything, and make everyone look cooler."
Tony still has a tendency to keep secrets pretty heavily and dwell on things by himself, though he's grown to accepting team work and incorporating it into his plans. He's very self-destructive and driven by guilt, taking more responsibility than he really should for the way things play out or the consequences of his actions. Wanda saw this first hand and used it against him. He wants nothing more than to protect everyone and actually fears another alien invasion, knowing they aren't ready to defend against it.
He doesn't handle grief well, tending to lash out or deflect. He calls Coulson an idiot for taking on Loki alone and Steve calls him out. He isn't very in touch with his own emotions, opting to repress them or act out instead of dealing with them. The guilt he's piled on himself over those that he's lost or his many screw ups make him somewhat self-loathing. "You're right. I don't deserve her." But he's also a narcissist, making him a bit of a conundrum. "Textbook... narcissism? --agreed." He keeps the self-loathing buried and to himself, but those who know him well enough know he isn't nearly as narcissistic as he lets on.
Tony Stark is a great big, brilliant child with a slough of character flaws, but he really does mean well.

[Tony keys the device on his wrist, activating the holographic display. He taps a few options and sets up the video feed. The network is greeted with the mouthier of the Starks aboard the ship. He clears his throat and tips his head just a bit closer as he engages the video.]
Okay kids and cats and everything in between, I'm Tony Stark. Yeah, yeah, I know. "Who's that?" [His tone was pitched higher and mocking while he rolls his eyes.] Doesn't matter right now. I'm filing a formal complaint: Breakfast this morning? Yeah, not even remotely edible. We either detour to a planet with a supermarket soon or so help me, I will... come up with a more daunting threat later. We seriously need to hit a rest stop before they start serving us couch cushions for dinner, though.
Now I understand we may not all need food to survive, but I'm one of those poor mortals that does. I can go without coffee, a shower, even sleep, but I get cranky without a proper meal. You won't like me when I'm hungry.
[He narrows his eyes dangerously when he speaks that last line with emphasis. Moments later, the tension relaxes out of his features and shoulders.]
So, down to business, anyone have any suggestions on the food dilemma until we can locate a stable planet for a supply run? And no, cannibalism is not an option.
[With that, he abruptly cuts the feed. He may have sounded serious and annoyed, but Stark was actually just bored. He'd lost track of the time while tinkering, as is his life, and figured it was about high time he be social before someone actually comes looking for him outside of his shift.]

[He's backin black and he's slightly out of sorts, but maybe that's to be expected. He never really asked Cap what it was like to be frozen in a block of ice, but it was probably a lot less pleasant than cryo. Stil, he feels off. He knew Cap's name vanished off the MID before he took his chilly nap, but the man's name was back. It's better to proceed with caution anyway. He's met alternate versions of himself, so this could be a different Steve Rogers.
He flicks on the video and makes it a point to stare intently. He can't see you all through the screen, but he sure gives you the impression that he can.]
Good morning ladies, gents, and everyone in between. This is your friendly neighborhood Iron Man and I've been... eh. Asleep? I guess that works. Anyone here specialise in cryogenics? I think I might have freezer burn, despite assurances to he contrary. Thoughts on that? And what'd I miss?
[He goes to shut off the video then stops, opens his mouth to say more, sighs, then gives in.]
Anyone here know what happened to my--to Howard Stark? Seems like the whole crew got a makeover while I was out. Well, most of it. I still recognise some familiar names.
Stark out. [He cuts the feed.]
